The Sefavian festival lasts five days and celebrates the arrival of humans to the village of Sefaven. Sefavian is celebrated every five years and is marked by contests of brain and brawn among villagers from ages 17 – 22. The day before Sefavian, the eldest Sefamon retire to become elders. The day after Sefavian, the contest winners are revealed and sworn in as new Sefamon.
The Sefavian games are based on the story of Tiroan and Rocard. According to legend, Rocard led the human refugees to Sefaven, which was then led by the elf Tiroan. Tiroan agreed to let the humans stay in Sefaven, but only if they could prove they were self-sufficient. A set of challenges were made by which the men and elves could compete to determine whether the refugees would stay. After the contests, Rocard proposed that Sefaven should be led by both elves and men, as the men had proven themselves the elves’ equals.
